Transport
The Heaviest Interstate Overland Haulage of the Country
Operation:
Interstate Overland Haulage, from Rio de Janeiro (RJ) to Ouro Branco (MG).
Highlight:
The overland haulage of the two Plate Mill Housing pieces is considered the heaviest interstate transportation performed in Brazil. Weighting 325.57 tonnes each equipment, theirs haulage needed to be carried out at least with one-month break between them to respect the ground capacity of the road, the total gross weight of each transporter totaled 774 tonnes and traveled through BR 40 State of Rio de Janeiro to State of Minas Gerais.
The challenges of the operation started in choosing the correct carrier equipment to accommodate the piece safely, concerning their specific format. The 500-tonne tripartite beam allowed docking and load protection, it was pushed by four 8X4 prime movers, which traveled at a maximum speed of 5km/hora, running strictly to plan.
Advance planning of the operation required topographic study of the two tunnels path willing to climb the mountains of Petropolis, for confirmation of the extent of both was extremely necessary to ensure the crossing without risk.
The plate mill equipment housing are components of steel rolling mill plans geared to manufacture hot rolled coil, its acquisition is part of the expansion project one of the largest suppliers of specialty long steel in the world that aims to increase production to 6.6 million tons of steel. One more piece plate mill housing of similar size will be shipped this month to the same place.
